Dear Charlie Rose,
I have viewed your fine interviews all week since the terrible shootings in Orlando on June 5th, 2016. All of your guests have met your usual high standards of knowledge and integrity. You as always have asked great questions about what to do going forward to stop or reduce these continuing gun tragedies in America. Yet, I have not yet heard anyone talk about the real root causes of these problems. Allow me to explain as follows.
An article about gun violence first appeared about 1970 in the monthly magazine Psychology Today. Their research was clear and impressive that the probability of an individual towards violence was enhanced by several factors. These include the knowledge of a gun and the possession of a gun. Just think about why that is true. Knowledge or possession changes one’s attitude. The benevolent attitude changes to a more aggressive one. An argument or dispute is more likely to turn hostile or violent by the one with the gun. He will seem to have the upper hand and thus go too far.
In brief, that is why we should not allow guns into our homes or our environment [Much less the assault weapon with huge magazines]
Yes, we have some other basic reasons for excessive gun violence in America. We also have a traditional culture of violence. This can be changed by a more enlightened early education policy. Our youngsters can and should learn how to live long and healthy lives without the need for guns in their neighborhoods. Guns are for killing. Guns have a very negative effect upon our nation and upon our individual lives. Guns kill 50,000 Americans each year in our homeland!
I hereby urge the talented staff of Charlie Rose to investigate the above and help the Nation to move forward. Please do this before the next interview on this subject.
