Frugality is deeply rooted in our American traditions. President John Adams wrote “Let Frugality and Industry be our Virtues.” In recent times we have strayed too far from these values.
Teach children frugality and the habit will benefit them during their entire lives. They can learn to reduce material needs. They can learn to resist TV commercials. They may find that “Less can be More”. Frugality can lead to finding better values which are more wholesome and longer lasting.
Teach children about TV and commercial advertisements, and how they exaggerate and distort the truth. Teach how they appeal to your emotional vulnerabilities. Teach them to question things and to get other opinions rather than swallow every pitch. … We really can get along very well without buying everything advertised.
Start the learning habit early and increase their chances of becoming rich. Both the poor and the wealthy can benefit by having a cushion of protection from the unexpected misfortunes of life. Living within your means is empowering, leading to better health also.
Non-wasteful habits may also slow the rate of Global Warming! Everything we buy consumes power and material and puts an added strain upon the world’s resources. Science and technology can only do part of what is needed. … The rest is up to us.
Teaching about Frugality and Thrift at an early age can lead the child to many good habits. As they progress through grade school they may become more involved and responsible. As young adults they may thus be compelled to Vote. Regular voting is the most powerful predictor of a bright future for America. And, America leads best when leading from a high moral platform.
Frugality will help the child or adult.
Frugality will reduce Global Warming.
Frugality can lead to empowerment and to regular Voting.
Regular Voting can lead to a better America.
A better America can change the world.
